New legislation on Extended Producer Responsibility
The Waste and Contaminated Land Act 7/2022 introduces important changes to Extended Producer Responsibility (EPR):
- Extending the scope: The EPR now includes industrial and commercial packaging by 31 December 2024, with a new model and legal framework for collective systems.
- New obligations: Information, financial and operational requirements are introduced to ensure the sustainability and transparency of the EPR model. This includes ecomodulation criteria to adjust producers' financial contributions and the creation of the Producer Register.
